Teknor Apex

Stand: 09/F05-03

Teknor Apex will highlight three product

areas of special interest to the European

market: PVC elastomer jacketing com-

pounds for the rapidly growing wind energy

industry; PVC-TPU blends for industrial

cable jacketing; and low smoke halogen-

free flame retardant (LS-HFFR) compounds

for insulation and jacketing.

Wind turbine cable compounds. Two

high-performance jacketing compounds

withstand the harsh cold, exposure to

lubricants, and other challenging conditions

encountered by control and power cables

within the nacelles high atop wind turbine

towers.

Flexalloy

®

9609-80 is an 80 Shore A

PVC-based elastomer that provides

superior long-term UV resistance. It

exhibits a brittle point of -60ºC. Apex

®

N-56001 is a 76 Shore A blend of PVC and

nitrile rubber that provides superior

long-term low-temperature flexibility and

excellent oil resistance. It exhibits a brittle

point of -54ºC. Besides exceeding appli-

cation standards for impact resistance at

temperatures down to -40ºC, both

compounds pass required tests for UV

resistance, 60-day oil aging at 75ºC, and

flammability performance as specified in UL

1685-FT4. The two compounds are rated at

105ºC for maximum continuous operating

temperature.

Industrial cable compounds: Two jacketing

compounds based on blends of polyvinyl

chloride

(PVC)

and

thermoplastic

polyurethane (TPU) provide outstanding

resistance to the aggressive end-use

conditions often encountered by industrial

cables.

Applications recommended for Apex

®

P-55003 and P-55004 compounds include

factory automation networks, industrial

robots, and other plant systems requiring

data or control cable.

Besides exhibiting the superior abrasion

resistance and excellent tensile properties

associated with TPUs, the compounds

provide resistance to oil and chemicals,

toughness at low temperatures, and

oxygen indices comparable to those of

standard PVC jacketing compounds for

industrial cable.

HFFR compounds. HalGuard

®

halogen-free

compounds are highly flame retardant and

generate low smoke, while processing on

extruders designed for PVC/PE and

exhibiting a good balance of mechanical

properties.

These products meet requirements for

audio and video, control, electronic

interconnect, and tray cables; power cords;

and copper and optical fibre data cables.

Flame performance ratings range from

VW-1 (UL-1581) to FT-4 (UL-1685). Service

temperatures range from 75ºC to 105ºC.
