SECTION 3.6. COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS

3.6.1.

General Purposes of Commercial and Industrial Districts

The commercial and industrial districts established in this section are intended to provide a wide range of

office, retail, service, institutional, industrial, and related uses to meet household and business needs, and

more specifically to:

A.

Provide appropriately located lands for the full range of commercial and industrial uses needed by

the Town’s residents, businesses, and workers, consistent with the goals, objectives, and policies of the

Comprehensive Plan;

B.

Strengthen the Town’s economic base, and provide employment opportunities close to home for

residents of the Town and surrounding communities;

C.

Create suitable environments for various types of commercial and industrial uses, and protect them

from the adverse effects of incompatible uses;

D.

Create suitable environments for various types of mixed-use development, where business, office,

retail, and residential uses are designed and integrated in compatible ways;

E.

Minimize the impact of commercial and industrial development on residential uses; and

F.

Promote sustainable development in terms of energy efficiency and conservation, greenhouse gas

reductions, food security, materials recycling, and similar sustainability goals.
