I

t’s another big month of anime titles with a

special number of Limited Edition releases

hitting shelves alongside their standard

edition brethren. Prepare for ol’ man Ryan’s

anime flashback. Many moons ago, circa 2003

or so, Madman released a ton of awesome

limited editions including cool collector's boxes

and memorabilia not available elsewhere, and it

is nothing short of awesome to see this kind of

cool swag returning to JB stores again.

Fans of the original magical girl franchise will

be happy to know that

Sailor Moon R : Season

2, Part 1

comes packaged in a collector's box

with glossy booklet, not to mention four discs

of action, adventure, new powers and new

transformations.

Love Live! School Idol Project: Season 2

has special, limited packaging and a character

guide included. The only thing missing from this

release are the School Idols themselves!

The pick of the limited edition releases

would be

Free! Eternal Summer: Season 2

+ OVA Collection

, which comes in collectors

packaging with a character guide, exclusive art

cards and a sheet of stickers from the Iwatobi

and Samezuka swim clubs. I’m man enough

to admit that this series is chock full of total

dreamboats.

Not to be left behind,

Sword

Art Online: Season 2, Part 4

(starring none other than Mr

Bryce Papenbrook, see below)

comes with a collector's box to

house Parts 3 and 4, some very

pretty postcards and an even

prettier artbook.

Gundam Reconguista in

G

wraps up with

Part 2

in a

subtitled-only release, while

Dramatical Murder

,

Tokyo ESP

,

Lord Marksman

and

Vanadis

all hit shelves in

complete collections.

Also available this month are shonen

stalwarts

Naruto Shippuden Collection 25

,

One Piece (UNCUT) Collection 36

and the

Bleach Movie Collection (movies 1-4)

,

as well

as the massive

Bleach Bankai Boxes 3 and 4

.

ANIME

ROUND-UP

T

he voice of more

anime characters

than I have page

space to spare, Bryce

Papenbrook is who I

want to be when I grow

up. Back in town this April

for Supanova in Melbourne

and on the Gold Coast, he admits that

he’s a big fan of our fair shores.

“I've been to Australia before, the

fans are great. Last time I don't think

I stopped signing all day. There were

lines literally around the corner."

After feigning sickness to get a day

off school, Bryce’s journey to voice

acting fame was expedited by his

father, who at the time was voicing

the villainous Rito Revolto in the

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

. Bob

Papenbrook had just finished his own

recording when the director stated

that he needed a kid's voice, to which

Bob replied, “He’s a kid!”

while literally shoving

his son into his future

career.

Don’t be fooled

by Bryce's devilish

good looks and voice of

a thousand characters – he

can hold his own, stating “I'm a 4th

degree black belt in Tang Soo Do, a

Korean martial art, and a kickboxer, so

I know what it's like to get hit for real.

I use that in my work”.

So you can be sure that when Rin

gets socked in the jaw, Bryce has

been there himself.

Having played so many well

known characters himself, including

Attack on Titan

's Eren Jaeger, Bryce

says that he’d love to be a part of

Dragonball Z.

"I think I could play Trunks but I

don't think I could play Goku, not as

well as Sean Schemmel."

When asked what the worst part

of being a voice actor

is, Bryce notes that

“auditioning is truly

brutal”, and that

taking a knock is in

no way uncommon.

"I always tell people

that if they get one out of

a hundred auditions, they're very

successful.”

But the absolute worst thing

of all would have to be, “the

traffic in LA. It’s a nightmare!”
