Alistair told us that his father,
Bruce, “was an English and
Spanish teacher there (at SES),
and my brother and three cousins
attended the School after me. I
went on to graduate in Portuguese
and Brazilian Studies in 1989
while studying at King’s College
London. I then went on to Price
Waterhouse where I qualified as a
Chartered Accountant in 1994.
Alistair created The Time Giving
Foundation to “inspire us to give
of our time, in our own unique
way”
www.timegiving.org.

rural clinics, two orthopaedic
trauma projects and developing
the WHO African Patient Safety
Partnership.
“I’ve just returned from the
Kenya Orthopaedic Project
to Coast General Hospital,
Mombasa.
I had a south west team
of 21 anaesthetists, surgeons,
nurses, physios, radiographers,
F1 administrator and medical
students running a clinic and
trauma ward rounds at Coast
General Hospital.
I had gone expecting this to be
our last Mombasa trip. I couldn’t
have been more wrong… A new
surgeon has now taken over
who assisted us in getting many
other staff involved enabling us
to take the project forwards both
operatively and educationally
by running the GRASP course
(course for nurses and doctors
in recognising sick patients and
managing trauma patients) and
trained over 100 doctors and
nurses during the week. We saw
about 80 patients and performed
47 procedures during the week.
In 2012 I’m hoping the trauma
and rural health clinic projects
will be able to combine with some
of the education and training
we’re offering”
