A press conference

with surprises

Top of the list for this

one. In a world where social

media spreads news like

an influenza virus, keeping

major announcements under

wraps is a job that even

ASIO would struggle with.

We long for the days where

a real sense of anticipation

and excitement existed prior

to the commencement of a

media briefing.

Everyone onboard

Last year we had a number

of publishers either pulling away

entirely from the show or reducing

their presence to meeting rooms

upstairs. We know that it can’t

always be rainbows and unicorns,

but the show has stated its

intent to become more relevant

by overhauling its dated format.

It’s still the most important show

on the calendar, so it needs

full support from all the major

publishers.

Travelators

OK, we’re probably being a tad

lazy here. The key to maximising

the distance you have to travel

at the Los Angeles Convention

Center is organising all your

meetings for one particular day in

one particular area. Ask us how

often we’ve managed to do that?

A travelator system would greatly

assist in the traversal of weary

limbs and poorly timed/planned

appointments.

Better and cheaper food

Obviously you’re not attending

E3 for its for its progressive

culinary offerings, but we know

enough around the science of

nutrition to ascertain that a hot

dog and chips – while likely to

temporarily satiate a hangover –

is unlikely to gift you the energy

required for a full day walking

the show floor. Offer up some

healthy options with prices that

won't make The Fat Duck seem

affordable.

Nintendo press

conference

It’s unlikely to happen, but the

Nintendo press briefings were the

perfect launch pad into the chaotic

three days of E3. Even though we

were no longer fooled by the video

stream of Miyamoto, supposedly

speaking fromTokyo only for the

industry luminary to burst through

a paper screen on stage, we

long for the complete and utter

kookiness associated with the

press conference.

E3 to start on a

Monday again

Enough now. With EA Play

now beginning on the Saturday

before E3 week, and Microsoft

and Bethesda taking up slots on

Sunday, time to relax and stretch

out the jet lag have been cut short

like the in-flight movie you never

manage to time to completion.

With the extended weekend

events, E3 has now become that

hot bath you always scald your

undercarriage on when you rush in

without preparation.

2017

It’s here. We want…

Next month we’ll be packing our bags once again and heading to Los Angeles for E3

2017. While the show promises many changes this year – namely opening its doors for

the first time to the general public – here are a few we’d like to see ourselves.
