Macedonia and Serbia, as well as Afghanistan and Lithuania:
1. Health and Environment assessment process in the Republic of Moldova started;
2. Integrated renewable energy scheme (IRENES) for Olovo city in Doboj-Zenica canton, Bosnia and
Herzegovina developed;
3.
Compendium of outlook environmental indicators
for the pan-European region including 12 countries in
Eastern Europe developed with the EEA;
4. EEA-compatible environmental indicators for 7 West Balkans countries (Albania, Bosnia and
Herzegovina, Croatia, the former Yugoslav of Macedonia and Serbia) developed;
5. Past trend and forward looking indicators on Sustainable consumption in Western Balkans developed.
6. Assessment of the existing waste management practice and recommendations for the improvement of
waste management in the frozen conflict zone of South Ossetia (Georgia) produced;
7. Feasibility study for the Lake Druksiai/Drisvyaty basin (Belarus, Lithuania) produced.

1. The regional workshop “European Environment Agency (EEA) Core Set of Indicators (CSIs) for the
West Balkan (WB) countries” held in Skopje, 11-12 December 2008;
2. Introductory seminar on strategic Environmental Assessment and GEO-Baku, Azerbaijan, Baku, 7-11
April, 2008;
3. Kick-off and capacity building training on GEO-cities methodology for two cities in Armenia (Gumry and
Hrazdan), 1-6 July 2008;
4. Seminar of national stockholders of Ukraine conducted in the framework of the project “Development of
the Pilot Information Management System for a transboudary management of the Dniester River in
Chernovtsy, Ukraine (48 participants, including 4 from Moldova), 15 April 2008;
5. 2nd International Training of Trainers’ Workshop on UNEP’s training manual for Integrated
Environmental Assessment and Reporting held in Geneva, (24-28 November 2008) together with the
UNEP/DEWA and UNEP/ROE;
6. 3-day workshop on Communication of results of Environmental Assessments and working with Media
for the National Environmental Authorities of Ukraine held in Kiev, Ukraine, 13-16 October, 2008 (15
Participants from 7 oblasts of Ukraine).

Assessment and capacity-building for managing environment and security risks in Donbas (Ukraine) and
Salihorsk (Belarus) regions. Report and dissemination seminar.

Support to regional environmental information network in EECCA/SEE through missions, addressing ad
hoc requests, and regular communication with the target countries (in cooperation with DEWA and DRC /
ROE) provided in the form of:
1. Assessment of 8 Eastern European and African countries’ needs in remotely sensed information and
technology prepared with Canada Space Agency Report;
2. Study tour in Hungary on environmental monitoring, reporting and Pollution Release and Transfer
Registers under the Aarhus convention organized for 3 Eastern European countries (Moldova, Belarus,
