The President

MR. PATRICK R. BOYD, Dublin, was elected Presi­

dent, and Messrs. Joseph P. Tyrrell of Bray and Mr.

Joseph Barret of Dublin were elected Vice-Presi

dents for the year ending December, 1949.

University Law Lectures

THE Council considered a report concerning the

position as to the university law lectures attended

by solicitor's apprentices with a view to obtaining

a reduction of one year in the term of apprentice

ship. The matter was referred to the Legal Edu

cation Committee for consideration and report

back to the Council.

Appearance of unqualified persons at Local

Government Inquiries

THE Council considered a letter from the Secretary

of the R.I.A.C. referring to the paragraph which

appeared in the Society's Gazette for November,

1948, to the effect that the Secretary of the R.I.A.C.

had examined and cross-examined witnesses at a

Local Government Inquiry held in Nenagh. He
