to Property
(Compensation)
(Amendment) Act, 1933.
The opinion obtained of Senior Counsel
was submitted on the question as to whether
the Minister under the Damage to Property
Compensation) (Amendment) Act, 1933, has
legal aiithority to apply the costs, as well as
the
compensation,
awarded by .
him
in
Report cases, towards payment of debts due
by the applicants, to the State, or to the
Land Commission, or for rates.
Counsel
advised that if a Report under the Act of
1933 provides for costs, the Minister's dis
cretion to pay, or not to pa}', under Section
6 (2) of the Act of 1933 applies to the costs,
and also that the power of deduction given
by Section 13 (3) of the Principal Act also
applies to the costs.
OBITUARY.
MR. HENRY P. BRIDGE, Solicitor, died
on the 2nd Juty, 1935, at Galway.
Mr. Bridge served his apprenticeship with
the late Mr. William Bridge, Roscrea, was
admitted
in Trinity Sittings,
1910,
and
practised at Roscrea.
MR. JOHN R. MOORHEAD, Solicitor, died
on the 3rd July, 1935, at his residence,
Hazelbrook, Knock, Belfast.
Mr. Moorhead served his apprenticeship
with the late Mr. McMordie, Belfast, was
admitted
in Trinity Sittings, 1886,
and
practised as a member of the firm of Moorhead
and Wood at 30 Rosemary Street, Belfast.
He was Crown Solicitor for the County
Antrim and City of Belfast from 1912 to
1921 and Chief Crown Solicitor for Northern
Ireland from 1922 to 1928, when he retired.
Miscellaneous Professional Information.
Charles St. George Orpen, Frederick John.
Waller Darley, and Dermot McGillycuddy
have entered
into partnership, and will
carry .on-the business of Darley, Orpen and
Synnott at 30 and 31 Kildare Street, Dublin
under
the name of Darley, Orpen and
McGillycuddy.
COURTS OF JUSTICE BILL, 1934.
On the 19th July, the Committee stage
of the Courts of Justice Bill, 1934, was
taken in the Dail, but by arrangement only
Government amendments were considered,
these being moved by
the Minister for
Justice.
On the next stage the Bill will be re
committed in its entirety, it will be taken
again in Committee, section by section, and
amendments may be submitted as for a
first Committee stage.
It will be necessary
to give notice of all amendments intended
to be moved, including any of which notice
may have been given for the Committee
stage which has taken place, but which
amendments have not yet been dealt with.
Some of the amendments submitted by the
Council to the Minister have been, at his
instance, incorporated in the Bill.
The Bill has been reprinted, and is now
on sale as amended in Committee.
