MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL.

3rd October.

Twenty Members present.

The late Mr. L. J. Ryan.

The Council passed a resolution expressing

deep regret at the death of their colleague,

Mr. Laurence J. Ryan, and their sympathy

with Mrs. Ryan and his

son

in

their

bereavement.

Courts of Justice Bill, 1934. -

The meeting had before it the print of the

Bill as amended in Committee of the Dail in

July last, and it was referred by the Council

to

the Special Committee which had it

previously under consideration.

Twenty-seven Members present.

October Examinations.

The report of the Court of Examiners,

giving results of October Examinations and

recommendations as to awards of scholar

ships and honours was adopted.

Courts of Justice, 1934. •

The report of the Special Committee of the

Council on the Bill as amended in Committee

of the Dail was adopted.

BALLOT FOR COUNCIL.

The ballot for election of Council will

be held on Thursday, 21st November,

from eleven o'clock to one o'clock, in the

Secretary's Office, Solicitors 'Buildings, Four

Courts, Dublin. Voting papers should reach

the Secretary not later than one o'clock on

Wednesday, 20th November.

A. Half-yearly General Meeting of

the

Society will be held at half-past two o'clock

p.m., on Tuesday, the 26th November, in

the Hall of the Society, Solicitors' Buildings,

Four Courts, Dublin.

OBITUARY.

MR. SAMUEL KERR, Solicitor, died on the

2nd August, 1935, at his residence, Verona,

Monkstown, Co. Dublin.

Mr. Kerr served his apprenticeship with

the late Mr. Isaac Molloy, Dublin; was

admitted

in Trinity Sittings, 1895, and

practised as a member of the firm of Kerr

and Hickey, at 43 Dame Street, Dublin, up

to 1934, when he retired.

MR. MARTIN TIERNEY, Solicitor, died on

the 4th August, 1935, at his residence,

Farnham Street, Cavan.

Mr. Tierney served his apprenticeship with

the late Mr. Louis C. P. Smith, Cavan ;

was

admitted

in Trinity Sittings,

1911,

and

practised at Cavan. He was Under-Sheriff

for Co. Cavan.

MR. PATRICK F. QUINLAN, Solicitor, died

at Perth, Western Australia.

Mr. Ouinlan served his apprenticeship with

Mr. John M. Maxwell, Dublin ; was admitted

in Hilary Sittings,. 1916, and practised at

68 Middle Abbey Street, Dublin, up to 1920,

when he retired.

MR. LAURENCE J. RYAN, Solicitor, died on

the 29th August, 1935, at his residence,

Beechmount, Thurles, Co. Tipperary.

Mr. Ryan served his apprenticeship with

the late Mr. James Plunkett, Dublin ;
