MEETINGS OF THE COUNCIL.

6th February.

Twenty-seven members present.

Mr. Joseph E. MaeBermott.

A resolution was passed expressing the

deep regret of the Council on the death of

Mr. Joseph E. MacDermott, a past President

of the Society, and of its sympathy with his

family in their bereavement.

Workmen's Compensation Act.

It was directed that the attention of the

Minister for Justice be drawn to the necessity

of rules being made under the Workmen's

Compensation Act, 1934.

27th February.

Twenty-six members present.

District Court.

A

letter was read

from

the Minister

for Justice on the subject of arrears in the

work of

the Dublin Metropolitan District

Court, stating that so far as these consisted

as work proper to the officers of the Court

rather than to the Justices themselves, they

had now been disposed of. The letter further

stated that so far as the strictly judicial side

of the business is concerned, the Minister had

arranged, after 'consultation with the Senior

Justice, that one of the permanent Assistant

Justices be available for

the Court,

in

addition

to

the

three ordinary Justices,

during the month of March, and that it is

understood with this assistance the business

of the Court will be brought up to date.

Insurance Bill, 1935.

It was resolved to take action in reference

to some suggested amendments to this Bill.

Courts of Justice Bill.

The Courts of Justice Bill, as amended on

re-committal, was submitted.

Workmen's Compensation Act.

A letter in reply from the Department of

Justice was read, in which it was stated that

the work of drafting of new Rules of Court

under the Workmen's Compensation Act,

1934, has been undertaken by counsel, and

that considerable progress has been made

therewith.

OBITUARY.

MR. CHARLES J. E. SUTTON, Solicitor, died

on the 2nd February, 1936.

Mr. Sutton served his apprenticeship with

his father, the late Mr. Frederick Sutton,

Dublin ;

was admitted in Hilary Sittings,

1884, and practised as a member of the firm

of Fred Sutton & Son, at 52 Dame Street,

Dublin, up to 1905, when he retired.

He was a member of the Council of the

Society from 1893 to 1899.

MR. JOHN J. MAGUIRE, Solicitor, died on

the 4th February, 1936, at his residence,

4 North Great George's Street, Dublin.

Mr. Maguire was admitted

in Hilary

Sittings, 1889, and practised at 4 North

Great George's Street, Dublin.
