Ich
möchte
meinen
Führerschein
umschreiben lassen.
Step 6
After having received your papers, the driving school will contact you in order to discuss the
timing of the
theoretical test.
Once you have passed the theoretical test at the TÜV, you will
receive your test results which you will have to take to your driving school.
Then your driving teacher will arrange the
driving lessons
and the
practical test
at the TÜV.
He will as well accompany you to the practical test. The test will most probably be taken in the
driving school’s car. The driving inspector from the TÜV will decide if you have passed the test.
After you have passed the practical test, the TÜV will complete your papers and return them
to the responsible Führerscheinstelle. After approximately ten days you may contact the
Führerscheinstelle (in Köln: your local registration office)
to find out when you can pick
up your German driver’s license.
Vocabulary assistance
When can I pick up my driver’s license?
Wann kann ich meinen Führerschein
abholen?
Step 7
The Führerscheinstelle will ask you to turn in your national driver’s license when you will pick
up your new German license.
In Germany it is illegal to possess more than one driver’s license. Therefore, the
Führerscheinstelle is legally obliged to confiscate your home country license before issuing
your German license. However, it might be possible to keep your national license by exception.
Please contact Dwellworks to assist in providing you with a letter from your employer
confirming that your national license is required for future business trips and holidays in your
home country.
