Witels-Albert believes that the
DR series straightening systems beats
the common practice in the industry
of using the drawing die for wire
straightening.
Experience clearly shows that the
die-based method has disadvantages
both for the workpiece and for the
tool. The primary disadvantages for
the workpiece or process material
are non-uniform distribution of tension
and variations in material structure
across the diameter.
This results in a level of finished
product quality that makes handling
difficult in downstream processes,
causing repeated problems. It has,
for example, a negative impact on
the dimensional accuracy of finished
products (springs, bent parts, etc.).

Fenn Technologies has been manu-
facturing a range of wire drawing, wire
shaping, and rolling mill equipment
for more than 100 years.
Using Fenn’s wire shaping equipment,
round wire is presented to a wire
shaping mill. The wire is shaped
by being drawn through two model
3U HP turks heads units. These units
are suitable for the production of
squares and rectangles using two
simple roll adjustments.
In the example pictured, the shaped
wire is drawn onto a horizontal capstan
fitted with extension arms suitable
for collecting loose coils of the shaped
wire. The unit includes a variable speed
drive, re-circulating coolant system
with individual flow controls and is fully
guarded for operator safety.
Units such as this can be incorporated
with Fenn wire flattening mills to form
wire flattening and shaping lines. For
irregular shaped wire, Fenn makes
other types of turks heads more
suitable for that application.
Also available for shaped wire drawing
are different types of pulling devices,
including shedding drums and plain-
faced double capstans.
Fenn Technologies also manufactures
custom-built wire drawing machines,
swagers, spring coilers and rolling mills.

www.fenntech.comA generation of wet
drawing machines
Many years of development and
the adoption of innovative technical
solutions has allowed M+E to create
their new generation of wet drawing
machines, significantly reducing or
eliminating many of the quality and
production problems.
Operation of M+E wet wire
drawing machines at leading wire
manufacturers and with different wire
types confirmed remarkable quality
and productivity increases compared
to traditional machines, while keeping
the die wear constant.
M+E wet wire drawing machines are
particularly noted for drawing of the
following steel wires: brass-coated
wire (steel cord, saw wire), electrolytic
or hot dip galvanized wire, stainless
steel wire and high quality spring wire.
