Lou Amato

Lou has over 30 years in the healthcare industry from the Human Resources department through Operations to the
Chief Executive role. As Regional President – Northeast, in addition to remaining actively engaged in client
consulting work, Lou manages the Northeast practice (from Maine to Georgia) for CBIZ Benefits & Insurance, the
13th largest employee benefits and insurance consulting/brokerage firm in the country. Lou has also taken on an
active role in implementing Accountable Care Organizations with a number of his healthcare clients and paving the
way with Population Health Management programs.
In July 2009, Lou and his partners decided to sell their employee benefits and human resources consulting firm,
Egan, Amato & O’Connor (EAO Benefits,) to CBIZ in order to open the NJ/NY market for CBIZ.
Prior to forming Egan, Amato & O’Connor, Lou was Chief Executive Officer of Cathedral Health System, a five hospital
system with over 5,000 employees and in excess of $500 million in revenue serving Newark, New Jersey and the
surrounding communities. Before joining Cathedral, Lou was Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of
Solaris Health System based in Edison and Plainfield New Jersey. In this role Lou oversaw 7,000 employees and all
of the operations for JFK Medical Center, Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center, Robert Wood Johnson Rehabilitation
Center and a number of other facilities which again totaled over $500 million in revenue. In addition, over his
career, Lou has run the employee benefits plans at both Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center and Franciscan
Health System.
Through the years, Lou has gained extensive experience negotiating insurance and physician contracts in a
collaborative way. In addition, Lou has a depth of expertise in union negotiations covering a wide range of benefits
and compensation issues. Lou’s career working inside hospitals has given him a unique understanding of employee
benefits that other consultants without this “hands on” experience may not have when designing employee benefits
plans.
