RAD Data Communications has had its wireless multiplexer,
the Airmux-200, approved by Ofcom.
A replacement for the local loop, the Airmux-200 enables
low-cost wireless connectivity without the need to pay for
leased lines. Using unlicensed radio space, it has no running
costs so is ideal for businesses who face spiralling
communication costs.
The Airmux-200 can be used in places where fixed
communications equipment can get knocked out (eg between
portacabins on construction sites) or where it can be hard to
install fixed equipment such as in listed buildings.
The Airmux-200 is also ideal for remote areas where network
coverage is limited. Due to its easy installation the solution can
be deployed as an emergency back-up in case of core
communications failure.
Local authorities and hospitals will benefit as they often have
several buildings within a 50-mile radius, and won’t be
required to have expensive copper and fibre installed.
Gaining Ofcom approval is the only way to make legal
transmissions without facing prosecution. RAD’s customers
can even register their link to reduce the risk of interference
from radios using the same air space.
