Mason Cash has been the choice of bakers for
centuries. It’s origins can be traced as far back as
1800, to a pottery operating at Church Gresley in
the heart of the English ceramic industry. Locat-
ed close to all the raw material and fuel sourc-
es required to make ceramics, It had fantastic
transport links to take finished goods all over the
UK and the world.
The pottery produced kitchen items made from
‘white and cane’ glazed earthenware, which is
sometmes referred to as ‘yellow ware’ due to
the colour of the local clay. ‘bargeware’ is also a
phrase that is used, as it was packed onto barges
and sent to market.
A series of Master Potters, of whom the most
colourful was ‘Bossy’ Mason, is where the ‘Ma-
son’ name came from in the 1800’s. Tom Cash
acquired the pottery in 1901 and renamed the
company Mason Cash & Co.
The heritage brand had been producing mixing
bowls during the 1800’s, but in 1901 they de-
signed and manufactured the very first iconic
Mason Cash mixing bowl. The design of the bowl
has endured the test of time, becoming an icon
In the British homewares industry. In fact, the
design has barely altered since then. With the
introduction of many more colours in the range,
the demand for bowls, pudding basins as well as
the oven to tableware remains extremely popular
in the catering industry.
