The President with Mr. and Mrs. C. Gavan Duffy at the Presentation on 31st August.

Presentation to retiring librarian

At a pleasant little ceremony held recently in the Members

Lounge, Blackball Place, the President of the Society, Mr.

Joseph L. Dundon, presented the Society's retiring Librarian,

Mr. Colum Gavan Duffy with a set of Tyrone Crystal Glasses

and a portable typewriter together with the proceeds of the

Testimonial Fund which had been organized by Mr. Andrew F.

Smyth on behalf of the Society. The President paid tribute to

the many years of devoted service which Mr. Gavan Duffy had

given to the Society and expressed the hope that Mr. Gavan

Duffy would epjoy many years of happy, but active retirement.

Mr. Smyth read a number of letters of appreciation which had

been received from members of the Profession.

In his reply Mr. Gavan Duffy made special reference to the

kindnesses which he had received from former Presidents and

the present President. He also expressed his thanks to Mr.

Smyth and to Mr. Donal Barrington S.C. who had arranged to

notify the Bar of the proposed presentation. He also paid

tribute to the happy relations which he had had with the

Librarians of the Bar Library and the Court Registrars and

other officials. In conclusion he wished success to his successor

Miss Margaret Byrne who had been of the greatest help to him

while she had been assistant librarian.
