These policies can lead students into trou-
ble. A football player at Lehigh University was
suspended after he used racist words in a
tweet. Numerous similar stories can be found
in recent years. Other athletes got in trouble
for posting pictures of themselves drinking
or in places where they should not be.
However, the monitoring and punishment
of what some might label free speech has
raised concerns among some people. The is-
sue of just how much right a school or a team
has to control what a person posts or says
is still being debated. As with everything in
social media, it is very much a moving target,
but one that will be part of the sports world
for the future.
