www.pld-literacy.org/events/This seminar is designed for teachers and education assistants working with 3 year old Kindy
and Kindergarten students. In this seminar you will learn:
•How to teach the most important pre-literacy skills for three and four year olds: phonolog-
ical awareness: identifying syllables, beginning sounds and the alphabet.
•How to teach, screen, and intervene with the students experiencing difficulties.
•How to plan and carry out short but effective whole class and small group activities.
•How to teach the skill of letter formation in an early childhood manner.
•An overview of the fine and gross motor skills (and pre-writing patterns) to be presented.
•How to teach three and four year oral language skills: listening, speaking, vocabulary, se-
mantics, comprehension, picture book retelling and developing language within activities.
•How to schedule small group sessions.
•How to involve parents in the process (i.e. if a middle to high SES school).
