Dáil Debates
29th January 1986
(Following questions from Deputies V. Brady and J.
Doyle in relation to the processing of Applications for
the purchase of ground rents.)
Mr. Lenihan:
Would the Minister not agree that the
overall operation of the Land Registry Office is self-
financing and that the imposition of an embargo on a
profit making aspect of the State's administration is
absolute nonsense?
Mr. Noonan (Limerick East):
The overall work of
the Land Registry Office is self-financing. But there is a
particular problem in an area where applications for a
particular service come in unevenly, for example, if in
one year there are 20,000 applications submitted and
two years later that figure drops to 1,700. It is not
sustainable that people should be given permanent
pensionable jobs to deal with a temporary problem.
Extra temporary staff have been provided to deal with
the temporary problem.
Mr. Lenihan:
But it is a profit making operation.
Mr. Noonan (Limerick East):
It could be profit making
for two years while there was work to be done but then
could be loss making for the next 38 while there was no
work to be done.
Mr. V. Brady:
In view of the fact that the Minister
concedes that the Land Registry Office is self-financing
and will continue to be so, will he give the House an
assurance that the requisite number of staff will be
employed to deal with the backlog of applications,
thereby bringing the position up to date?
Mr. Noonan (Limerick East): I
have already
answered that for Deputy Lenihan.

Taxation Consultancy Services
For Law Practices
We provide a full range of taxation services to the
legal and the accountancy professions.
As the volume of taxation legislation increases,
tax problems become more complex.
It takes a full time tax specialist to arrive at the
solutions clients are looking for. Yet, employing a
permanent tax specialist can be difficult to justify
in normal law practices.
That's the dilemma which we resolve.
We supply practitioners with the standard of
advice which can come only from full-time tax
specialists.
Experience has shown that demand exists in all
aspects of taxation.
We are experienced in all the taxes — Income
Tax, Corporation Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Capital
Acquisitions Tax, Residential Property Tax and
Value Added Tax.
We would be glad to discuss with you the services
we provide.
