SSC September 2016 Newsletter
NATIONAL HISPANIC HERITAGE MONTH Hispanic Heritage month occurs from September 15 to October 15. The obser- vation began in 1968 and celebrates the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America. Sep- tember 15 is significant be- cause it is the independ- ence day of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Chile and Mexico cele- brate their independence days on September 18 and September 16, re- spectively. DIVERSITY AND IN- CLUSION ACTIVITY: During the week of Sep- tember 12, make a con- certed effort to be more aware of how you encour- age and acknowledge others. Think of a couple great ways to recognize others. If it’s not already part of what you do regu- larly, maybe it will be.
