art galleries and the art museum open their

doors and Congress Street is lined with

performers and artists selling their creations.

SEAS THE DAY

You can take a dip at East End Beach on

the Portland peninsula or on the campus of

Southern Maine Community College and

at Willard Beach, both in South Portland.

GO FLY A KITE

At Bug Light Park in South Portland and

Fort Williams Park in Cape Elizabeth, the

lawns are wide and perfect for getting aloft

alongside the water.

STARS UNDER THE STARS

During the summer, L.L.Bean presents

national headliner acts and local favorites

at Discovery Park in downtown Freeport.

FLAMING INTEREST

Visit the Portland Fire Museum, located in

the former quarters of Engine #4, and filled

with artifacts preserving the history of

firefighting in Portland.

A WALK IN THE PARK

Deering Oaks Park provides abundant

shade for hot summer days and colorful

fall foliage. Highlights include a duck pond

with fountain, playgrounds, restrooms, and

stunning rose gardens.

Freedom Trail to learn about the

Underground Railroad and abolitionist
