Smaller proportional solenoid cartridge
valves with improved performance
Power management company Eaton
has introduced the ESV9 series of
proportional solenoid cartridge valves,
aimed at offering a general-purpose
alternative to industrial-rated valves.
The ESV9 valves are smaller, reducing
the manifold size, and allow increased
flexibility during installation. The valves
offer control with optimised linearity,
operational efficiency and low hysteresis
of less than 7 per cent. Broader ramp
changes also allow greater resolution.
The size 10 ESV9 is a four-way three-
position screw-in cartridge, and is
available with either a type E or F spool
configuration. The E spool type solenoid
valve has all the ports closed in the
de-energised position.
This valve is suitable for moderate flow
applications where an actuator needs
to be proportionally controlled in both
directions and stopped in any position.
With the F spool in the de-energised
condition, ports two and four are open
to tank with the inlet port three blocked.
This allows the service ports to decay
to tank pressure in the de-energised
condition. The size 10 ESV9 valve has a
rating of up to 22 litres per minute and
up to 250 bar.
“The introduction of the ESV9 series
will help provide significant up-front
cost savings to our customers,
complementing Eaton’s Cetop 3
industrial-rated, high-flow KDG4-V3
series,” said Andreas Kling, product
marketing manager power and controls
products EMEA at Eaton.
As an option, the valves are available
with a manual override and can
additionally be fitted with or without
the IP69K compatible ‘L Series’ Large
ToughCoils™.
12V or 24V DC coil voltages, with or
without a diode, can be selected, along
with a number of housing materials
(steel or aluminium) and port sizes.
Applications include construction
machinery, agricultural, material
handling and a broad range of general
equipment.

Val-Matic’s Swing-Flex
®
and
Surgebuster
®
check valves are
designed for years of maintenance-
free service. Both valves have a
short 35° stroke, which provides
fast closure to minimise slamming
and slam-related surges.
The Swing-Flex check valve has
a non-clog design with only one
moving part. It is constructed of
ductile iron with cold working pressures
up 250 psi, making it an option for
systems where traditional 125-lb valves
are unsuitable and for those where
surges may be a concern.
The valve design and performance has
been verified through an independent
million-cycle test and fully complies
with ANSI/AWWA C508. The valve’s
smooth, unrestricted flow path makes it
a suitable choice for sludge and slurries.
The Surgebuster check valve has all the
design features of the Swing-Flex, with
the addition of the Disc Accelerator™
to prevent slamming in the most severe
applications. The Disc Accelerator
is a precision-formed stainless steel
mechanism that closes the valve
disc rapidly, avoiding slamming by
flow reversal yet allowing the disc to
be stabilised under flow conditions.
The accelerator is fully enclosed
within the valve and completely out
of the flow path. The Surgebuster is
suited to a number of applications,
including high head, multiple pump
and surge tank installations.
The valves are both NSF/ANSI 372 Cer-
tified Lead-Free, NSF/ANSI 61 Certified
for Drinking Water, and designed and
built in accordance with AWWA C508.
