TOM mechanical calculation

program

Molecor is a specialist in the

development and commercialisation of

TOM

®

orientated PVC (PVC-O) pipes for

pressured water.

As part of its commitment to the devel-

opment and continuous implementation

of technical tools to support its

collaborators, the company has

provided an innovative design tool: the

TOM Mechanical Calculation Program

is a simple, functional and interactive

application. Due to the importance of

performing mechanical calculation of

buried pipes to assess the mechanical

stresses that are transmitted to the pipe

by the action of different external loads,

the mechanical calculation of TOM

pipes should be done before designing

an installation.

The program determines the validity

of the installation based on the efforts

and stresses that the pipe will support,

as well as its safety coefficients at

breakage and crushing.

Benefits of copper highlighted

in new CPD programme

Conex Bänninger, a manufacturer

of plumbing fittings and valves, has

introduced a new CPD programme

highlighting the advantages of copper

as a preferential fitting material.

As well as showcasing its performance

benefits, the programme includes an

update on current codes of practice and

explains how using copper products

helps to meet increasingly stringent

building standards.

The CPD also addresses the positive

role copper can play in maintaining

water hygiene and how its anti-microbial

properties can combat infections,

including potentially deadly legionnaires’

disease.

The programme is designed with

specifiers and M&E contractors in mind,

while stockists and installers will also

find it useful.

Dan Wild, UK business unit director for

Conex Bänninger, said, “While other

materials have their place, copper has

the edge from so many perspectives

– its practical use, sustainability,

environmentally and from a health

and safety standpoint. In developing

our latest CPD programme we’ve

gone into great depth on this subject

matter, whilst taking care to cover the

necessary competencies required for a

project consultant, specifier, designer,

contractor, installer and water supplier.”

As a ‘noble’ metal, copper is resistant

to corrosion and oxidisation. It

is 100 per cent recyclable, with the

recycling process better than others

for the environment. It is also non-

flammable and highly resistant to

extreme temperatures, and it attacks

a wide range of bacteria, making it

suitable for medical and pharmaceutical

applications.

While focusing on the benefits of copper,

the programme considers the full range

of products and jointing solutions on

the market, from solder and braze to

compression, threaded and push fit.
