Facing =

Fair raking cutting =

Cutting exposed brickwork

or facing at an angle to the

along a gable.

Fat mortar =

Mortar that is sticky and adheres to the trowel;

contains a high percentage of cementitious

materials. Opposite of

lean mortar.

Fire brick =

Brick made of fire-resistant clay; used to line the

firebox area of a fireplace.

Fireplace =

An opening at

the base of a

chimney,

an

open recess in

a

wall,

in

which a fire

can be built.

Fire stone =

Any stone, such as sandstone, that is fire

resistant and suitable for use in fireplaces.
