Premium connections
approved by ADCO
ТМК, a producer of tubular products for
the oil and gas industry, has received
an official notice of product approval
from Abu Dhabi Company for Offshore
Oil Operations (ADCO). Volzhsky Pipe
Plant (VTZ), a TMK subsidiary, was
acknowledged by ADCO as an approved
vendor of threaded pipes with TMK PF
premium connections.
ADCO is one of the largest oil producers
in the Middle East, running onshore and
offshore operations in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
It is controlled by the state-run Abu
Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC).
“Acceptance of VTZ as an approved
vendor of threaded pipes with premium
connections significantly extends the
competitive stance of ТМК in future
tenders by ADCO, as well as by other
ADNOC subsidiaries in Abu-Dhabi,”
said TMK CEO Alexander Shiryaev.
“The successful experience of supplying
our products to ADCO will also support
our case in future tenders by other global
and regional oil and gas companies
producing hydrocarbons in the Middle
East. Symbolically, the message from
ADCO arrived almost concurrently with
a similar notice from India’s state-run
oil and gas major, ONGC, who has also
officially approved our casing pipes with
TMK PF premium connections.”
TMK operates 28 production sites in
the USA, Russia, Canada, Romania,
Oman, UAE and Kazakhstan, and two
R&D centres in Russia and the USA. In
2012, TMK’s pipe shipments totalled
4.22 million tonnes. The largest share of
sales belongs to high margin oil country
tubular goods, shipped to customers
in over 80 countries. The company
delivers its products along with an
extensive package of services in heat
treating, protective coating, premium
connections threading, warehousing
and pipe repairing.

NORSOK qualification of hydraulic
and instrumentation tubing
Adding to its extensive capability
in supplying material to the oil and
gas industry worldwide, Sandvik has
successfully been qualified according
to NORSOK M650 edition 4 for the
MDS R18 and MDS R11 standard for
its seamless austenitic stainless steel
hydraulic and instrumentation tube and
pipe products in grade Sandvik 254
SMO (UNS S31254) for use in oil and
gas applications.
The NORSOK standards are developed
by the Norwegian petroleum industry to
ensure adequate safety, value adding
and cost effectiveness for petroleum
industry developments and operations.
Furthermore, NORSOK standards are
as far as possible intended to replace
oil company specifications and serve as
references in the authorities’ regulations.
Sandvik’s new tube mill in Sweden for
hydraulic and instrumentation tubing
has achieved the qualification for type
Sandvik 254 SMO for its full range
production programme in the new mill.
“To qualify against NORSOK is a
milestone and a prerequisite to be
a serious player in the oil and gas
market, especially in the North Sea
region,” said Andreas Furukrona,
global product manager for hydraulic
and instrumentation tubing at Sandvik.
“We already have NORSOK approval
for tubes in larger dimensions and
now we are filling the gap for smaller
dimensions. That being said we also see
NORSOK growing into other regions.”
Sandvik can supply a range of
hydraulic and instrumentation tubing
in dimensions between 6 and 25mm
outside diameter in Sandvik 254 SMO,
with wall thicknesses between 0.89 and
2.11mm, and is constantly working on
qualifications in order to be able to
supply complete packages.
“This is one of many initiatives that
make Sandvik closer to a ‘one-stop
shop’ when it comes to stainless steel
purchase for the oil and gas business.
We are also just about to upgrade our
stock of Sandvik 254 SMO to make
it fully NORSOK qualified,” explained
Mr Furukrona.
