Contracts for
ultra-deep water
fields
TECHNIP has been awarded by Petrobras two ultra-deep
water contracts for the supply of flexible pipes for the
Sapinhoá Norte field and I5 at Lula field (former Tupi field),
located in the Santos Basin pre-salt area (Brazil), at a water
depth of up to 2,500m.
The combination of both contracts covers the supply of
approximately 100km of flexible pipes for oil production,
gas lift and gas injection, as well as related equipment for
the pre-salt area, to be installed on the floating production
storage and offloading (FPSO) units,

The gas injection top risers are designed for high internal
pressure, using the Teta profile developed by Technip’s R&D
team at the Flexi France plant in Le Trait, France. Teta wire
has a specific, patented T-shape used in flexible pipe to
resist the radial effect of the internal pressure.
The gas injection top risers, together with the majority of
the scope above, will be manufactured in Flexibras Açu,
Technip’s new flexible pipe manufacturing plant in Brazil.
The remaining scope will be manufactured in Flexibras
Vitória. Technip’s operating centre in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil,
will perform the engineering and project management.

Bending boost
for Larsen and
Toubro in India
COJAFEX has supplied and installed an auxiliary bending
arm for the PB 1400 bending machine at Larsen and Toubro
in India. This arm enhances the capabilities of the 56"
pipe bending machine. It can now also process pipes with
diameters ranging from 4" to 16" at radii 1.5 diameter and
up. Induction bent spools save greatly on welding. Cojafex
bending machines can bend very complex shapes.
The Cojafex proprietary collision detection software
enables customers to determine the feasibility of a
proposed spool piece in the initial estimation/quotation
phase.
