The Princeton University Art

Museum is the Princeton

University’s gallery of art,

located in Princeton, New

Jersey. Founded in 1882, it now

houses over 72,000 works of

art that range from antiquity

to the contemporary period.

The Princeton University Art

Museum dedicates itself to

supporting and enhancing the

university’s goals of teaching,

research, and service in fields

of art and culture,

as well as to serving regional

communities and visitors

from around the world. Its

collections concentrate on the

Mediterranean region,Western

Europe, China, the United States,

and Latin America.

Lake

Carnegie

Lake Carnegie is a reservoir

that is formed from a dam

on the Millstone River, in the

far northeastern corner of

Princeton, New Jersey.

Lake Carnegie was the gift of

steel magnate Andrew Carnegie,

who gave the funds at the

behest of Howard Russell Butler,

Class of 1876, a portrait painter

for whom Carnegie sat in 1902.

The lake, which

is privately owned, is used

by the university’s rowing team.

It is, however, available for public

use for activities such as ice

skating, fishing and picnicking.

Princeton University is a private

Ivy League research university

in Princeton, New Jersey.

Founded in 1746 in Elizabeth

as the College of New Jersey,

Princeton was the fourth

chartered institution of higher

education in the American

colonies and thus one of

the nine Colonial Colleges

established before the American

Revolution. The institution

moved to Newark in 1747, then

to the current site nine years

later, where it was renamed

Princeton University in 1896.
