The Museum of Science and
Industry occupies the former
Liverpool Road Station. The
Museumwas originally opened
in a different location but since
the Station closed in 1975, the
Greater Manchester City Council
bought the station from British
Rail for only £1 and it became
the Museum’s new home.
The Station is the world’s oldest
surviving railway station. In
the different galleries of the
Museum you can see Revolution
Manchester; a digital journey
through the city’s greatest
innovations, Science Gallery,
one of the world’s largest
collection of working steammill
engines, you can time-travel back
to 19
th
century Manchester
and much more.

The Wheel

The Wheel of Manchester
has 42 carriages, and although
very similar to the London
Eye, is actually transportable.
It is one of the world’s largest
transportable wheels.
The Wheel was built in Holland
and it was located in Paris,
at the end of Champs Elysee, for
three years before
it was transferred to Manchester
in 24 containers.When the
Wheel got to Manchester it took
two weeks to construct it
in the Exchange Square.
Arndale Shopping
Centre

The Manchester Arndale features
240 shops and has hundreds
of high street brands.The
Shopping Centre has been under
renovation quite a few times and
it has been extended to fit even
more shops. In 1996 a bomb was
detonated outside the shopping
centre which had devastating
results.The explosion
damaged the western end
of the centre and destroyed the
Food Court,VoyagersWalk and
multiple shops, including Nike
and JD Sports.This incident was
the start of the renovations
and slowly, and costly,the other
parts of the shopping centre have
been renovated as well.
