Liverpool TownHall is a

prestigiousWorldHeritage

Site and the current building

was completed between

1795 and 1820.The Town

Hall is the home of The

LordMayor of Liverpool.

The TownHall can

accommodate up to 270

guests in its various rooms.

It offers a unique venue for

conferences,exhibitions,

dinners andmeetings.The

decorations on the front of

the TownHall represent the

British international trade in

Africa,including the trade

in slavewhere Liverpool

gainedmuch of itswealth..

The Liverpool Central

Librarywas originally

opened in 1860,and it is

one of the largest public

libraries in theUKwith large

collections that have been

built up over the last 150

years.DuringWorldWar

II the Librarywas hit by a

bomb and thousands of

books and archiveswere lost

in addition to the interior

being destroyed.The facade,

however,remained

intact.In

2013 the Librarywas fully

restored andmodernised.

The library has threemillion

items in the archive and one

million items on display.

St George’s Hall was

built in the early 1800s.

It was built as a space

for music festivals and

the Civic and Crown

courts. It is regarded as

one of the finest neo-

classical buildings in the

world. Today the Hall

is used for exhibitions,

tours, corporate events

and weddings. However,

the ground floor and

basement still house

holding cells for prisoners

and the condemned cell.

Albert Dock was originally

opened in 1846 and was

used as a fullyworking

dock for 126 years.When

the dock was closed it

underwent a big restoration

and was opened again as

a visitor attraction in 1988.

The Dock is situated on the

banks of River Mersey and

it is listed as a UNESCO

World Heritage site.Today

the Dock is the most

visited free UK attraction

outside London.The site

is 1.25 million square feet

and when it was built to

be a working dock it took

five years to built it.The

creation of the dock is a

testament to innovation

and engineering feats.

The idea, planning and

creation of Tate Liverpool

started in the 1980s when

the director of Tate,Alan

Bowness, decided to create

a ‘Tate of the North’.Tate

Liverpool is one of the most

visited galleries outside of

London.The gallery has a

changing programme of

exhibitions throughout the

year,which bring together

artists and artwork from

all over the world. Some

of the better known artist

displayed in Tate Liverpool

include Gustav Klimit, Pablo

Picasso, Rene Magritte

and Claude Monet.

The gallery also has a larg

display or artwork from the

National Collection.
