World Museum

The World Museum is the oldest

museum and galleries operated

by National Museums of

Liverpool. It was first opened i

n 1853 in Ropeworks district.

The Museum has expanded to

be one of the great museums

of the British regions, with

collections and displays of

life sciences, earth sciences

and human cultures around

the world. In the Museum

you can see millions of years

of the Earth’s history, the

World Cultures gallery shows

the customs, objects and

achievements that have

shaped the civilization, discover

the wonders of the natural

world in the Natural History

Centre, travel through space

in the Planetarium.

Central Library

The Liverpool Central Library

was originally opened in 1860,

and it is one of the largest

public libraries in the UK with

large collections that have

been built up over the last 150

years. During World War II

the Library was hit by a bomb

and thousands of books and

archives were lost in addition

to the interior being destroyed.

The facade, however, remained

intact. In 2013 the Library was

fully restored and modernised.

The library has three million

items in the archive and

one million items on display.

Altogether the Library

has 36km of shelves.

Town Hall

Liverpool Town Hall is a

prestigiousWorld Heritage Site

and the current building was

completed between 1795 and

1820.The Town Hall is the home

of The Lord Mayor of Liverpool.

The Town Hall can accommodate

up to 270 guests in its various

rooms. It offers a unique venue

for conferences, exhibitions,

dinners and meetings.The

decorations on the front of the

Town Hall represent the British

international trade in Africa,

including the trade in slave where

Liverpool gained much of its

wealth.The five statues on top

of the Town Hall looking over

Liverpool were washed for the

first time in 200 years in 2014.
