Maritime Museum

The Merseyside Maritime

Museum is not only a museum,

it is also a treasure house of

architectural and mechanical

invention. The museum opened

in 1980 around the pilotage

building and in 1986 moved

to its current location. Since

the opening of the museum it

has continued to collect a wide

range of memorabilia relating to

seafaring, sea travel and the port

of Liverpool. Fun things to do in

the Museum include following

Matt the customs officer’s

trail round the Seized! gallery,

dressing up as passengers

and crew in the Titanic.

Tate Liverpool

The idea, planning and creation

of Tate Liverpool started in the

1980s when the director of Tate,

Alan Bowness,decided to create a

‘Tate of the North’.Tate Liverpool

is one of the most visited galleries

outside of London.The gallery

has a changing programme of

exhibitions throughout the year,

which bring together artists

and artwork from all over the

world. Some of the better known

artist displayed in Tate Liverpool

include Gustav Klimit,

Pablo Picasso, Rene Magritte

and Claude Monet.The gallery

also has a larg display or artwork

from the National Collection.
