Liverpool Metropolitan Cathedral

is a Roman Catholic Cathedral

and it was opened in 1967.

The current Cathedral was the

fourth attempt by the Catholic

Church to build a mother church

in Liverpool.The Archbishop of

Liverpool, at the time, launched

a competition in 1960 inviting

entries from all over the world,

and over 300 submission were

received.The design of Frederick

Gibberd was selected and the

construction began in 1962.
