The Chester Beatty Library

is an art museum and library,

which houses a great collection

of manuscripts, prints, drawings,

rare books and some decorative

arts. The collections come from

all over the world, including

Asia, The Middle East, North

Africa and Europe, which make

the Library’s displays rich in the

artistic treasures of the great

cultures and religions

of the world.

Dublin Castle

Dublin Castle was originally

built in the 13

th

century on a

site previously settled by the

Vikings. The Castle functioned

as a military fortress, a prison,

treasury, courts of law and the

seat of English Administration in

Ireland for 700 years.

The Castle was rebuilt between

the 17

th

and 20

th

centuries, and

it is now used for important

State receptions and

Presidential launches.

The city of Dublin gets its name

from the Dubh Linn, on the site

of the present Castle Gardens

and Coach House.

National Gallery

of Ireland

The National Gallery of Ireland

was established by an Act of

Parliament in 1854.The Museum

has around 2 500 paintings, and

10 000 other works in different

media. Everymajor European

school of painting is represented,

and it also houses a renowned

collection of Irish paintings.
