Vines Gardens

3

The Vines Gardens is a Grade II

listed garden. In the medieval

times it was used by monks to

cultivate vines. The monks grew

grapes in the Gardens

for their wine, and there is a

statue of a monk in the Gardens

as a reminder of that time. The

London Plane trees bordering

the central path in the gardens

is known as the Board Walk.

The late 19

th

century park was

badly damages in 1987, but

it has been fully restored since

then. There are interpretation

panels within the park telling the

story and history of the Gardens.
