‘LEADING LIGHT’ CELEBRATES 25 YEARS

IN THE BUSINESS

F

or 25 years, Eurolux has been pivotal in bringing the latest innovations

in the lighting industry to South African businesses and consumers.

What started out as a modest Cape Town operation has flourished

into an impressive company with a nationwide footprint, links into Africa

and the Middle East, and above all – an innovative approach to business.

“Anybody can sell a product, but throughout Eurolux’s existence, our fo-

cus has always been on adding value – and this will not change. We con-

stantly challenge ourselves to really engage our customers and offer them

excellent products and the technical know-how and knowledge they need

to make informed lighting decisions,” explains Shaun Bouchier, director at

Eurolux.

Eurolux’s entrance into the project lighting arena highlights Bouchier’s

point. “A few years ago we recognised the demand for quality project light-

ing in SA, so we decided to make it one of our focus areas. That saw us

importing high bays, floodlights, downlights and

top-end decorative fixtures for commercial, re-

tail and manufacturing environments. But we did

more than just sell these products, we also made

our technical teams available to assist customers

where needed. It’s part of the Eurolux ethos, we do

everything we can to ensure that we deliver out-

standing service.”

As the company specialises in imports and dis-

tribution, Eurolux depends on strong relationships

with its business partners to get its products to

the general public. With this in mind, all distribu-

tors, and the general public, are given the chance

to view their products at their unique lifestyle

showrooms in Johannesburg and Cape Town. “Our

Cape Town showrooms encompasses 1 500m²,

housing designs from exclusive European brands

such as FontanaArte, Slamp, Lombardo, Ivela, Ma-

nooi, Inarchi, Iris Cristal, Panzeri, Karboxx, Eglo and

SG. We are also thrilled to have partnered with lo-

cal icon Carrol Boyes, who has designed an exclu-

sive range for Eurolux, which we believe will prove

to be very popular,” elaborates Bouchier.

In an effort to gain a larger footprint in the elec-

trical market, Eurolux sold 60% of the company

to ARB Holdings in 2011. Eurolux’s well-branded

range of high quality lamps and lighting prod-

ucts augments ARB’s extensive range of electrical

products and is sold into a complimentary, rather

than overlapping customer base.

The Eurolux’s product line-up currently includes:

• Halogen, HID, LED and fluorescent lamps and

tubes;

• A broad range of light fittings: ceiling and wall

lights, chandeliers, pendants, spotlights and

down lights, table and floor lamps;

• Outdoor, flood and security lights; and

• Ancillary electrical products, including fans and

electrical components.

To the extent required, all products imported by

Eurolux either bear the South African Bureau of

Standards mark or comply with the requirements

set out by the National Regulator for Compulsory

Specifications.

Customer demand was behind another of Eu-

rolux’s innovative concepts – the company’s light-

ing technology workshops. “The industry profes-

sionals we engage with on a daily basis expressed

the need to better understand emerging lighting

technologies and their application within particular

fields. To answer this demand, we turned to light-

ing specialists Blair Hammond & Associates, who

design and conduct the courses for us,” explains

Bouchier. “These workshops are designed to en-

able architects, consulting engineers and lighting

practitioners to make informed decisions regard-

ing professional lighting design and application.

The 2016 sessions offer brand new content, as

well as the opportunity for electrical engineers, ar-

chitects, interior designers and other professionals

to earn their annually required continuous devel-

opment points (CDPs).

The recent release of the latest Eurolux lumi-

naire catalogue has officially marked 25 years

within the local lighting industry, and Bouchier

could not be prouder. “We are truly blessed with

a tremendous team at Eurolux – who really make

all the difference, and they give us great hope for

our future.”
