2016-2020 FINANCIAL PLAN
NORTH SURREY ARENA REPLACEMENT
$45,500,000
The North Surrey Arena contains 2 sheets of ice; one of the sheets was built in 1966 and
is at the end of its useful life. To ensure that the users of that arena are not displaced due
to a facility failure, it is necessary to plan and build a new twin sheet replacement prior
to closing the existing arena. The 2016 contribution to this multi-year project is
$25,500,000.
OPERATING IMPACT: The 2016 – 2020 Financial Plan includes a net addition of $50,000
for operating costs to address expected increases in facility programming costs.
PERFORMING ARTS SPACE FEASIBILITY AND LAND ACQUISITION
$10,750,000
To further complement the existing Surrey Arts Centre’s 400 seat theatre and City Hall’s
Centre Stage 200 seat theatre, a new performing arts space is planned in the City. Given
the City’s growth and large geographic area, there is a demand for additional performing
arts space. The 2016 contribution to this multi-year project is $250,000.
OPERATING IMPACT: The operating budget requirements will be defined as a
component of the feasibility study.
RCMP DISTRICT OFFICE RELOCATION
$200,000
Over the course of the next several years, many of the RCMP District Office leases will
expire, including the Newton location in 2016. Funds are being set aside to address
potential relocations that will improve the benefits that these offices have on the
community.
OPERATING IMPACT: The 2016 – 2020 Financial Plan does not include additional
operating costs as all costs associated with the implementation and delivery of
this program are included within the allocated funding.
RCMP FRONT COUNTER ENHANCEMENTS
$791,000
Due to new security regulations established by RCMP, the lobby entrance is being
expanded to accommodate improved reception protection at the main detachment. An
air lock vestibule is also being added for improved comfort. The 2016 contribution to this
multi-year project is $391,000.
OPERATING IMPACT: The 2016 – 2020 Financial Plan does not include additional
operating costs as all costs associated with the implementation and delivery of this
program are included within the allocated funding
