MEETING OF THE COUNCIL.
21st March.
Twenty-three Members present.
High Court Rules.
The President informed the Council that
he had attended a meeting of the High Court
Rules Committee, summoned to consider
some amendments in the Rules suggested for
the consideration of the Committee by the
Minister for Justice ;
that the Committee
had decided not to agree to a suggested
increase
in Court
fee
funds;
that no
amending Rules had yet been signed.
Income Tax Collection.
A Report was
submitted
from
the
Privileges Committee in reference to the case
of an Income Tax Collector who had taken
proceedings in person for the recovery of
income tax under Section eleven of the
Finance Act, 1924, and had claimed Solicitors'
profit costs of the proceedings. The Com
mittee reported the communication addressed
by their direction
to
the Revenue Com
missioners
on
the matter, which was
approved.
Certificates.
Three applications for Solicitors' Certi
ficates under Section 47 were dealt with.
Apprentices.
A letter was read from the Hon. Sec. of
the Irish Free State Solicitors' Apprentices'
Rugby Football Team thanking the Council
for defraying the railway journey expenses of
the team visiting Belfast for a match against
the Northern Ireland Solicitors' Apprentices'
team, which had taken place, with the result
that the Northern team had been successful
by 18 points to 10 points.
OBITUARY.
MR. JOHN SKEFFINGTON, Solicitor, died
upon the 4th March, 1929, at his residence,
Union Place, Dungannon.
Mr. Skeffmgton served his apprenticeship
with Messrs. Shean and Dickson, Belfast;
was admitted in Easter Sittings, 1911, and
practised at Dungannon.
MR. JOHN GORDON SCOTT, Solicitor, died
in March, 1929, at Londonderry.
Mr. Scott was admitted in Michaelmas
Sittings, 1885, and practised at Larne up to
1927, when he retired.
