Mr. Fottrell served his apprenticeship with

his uncle, Mr. John G. Fottrell, Dublin ; was

admitted

in Trinity Sittings,

1900, and

practised in partnership with Mr. John G.

Fottrell at 46 Fleet Street, Dublin.

He was a member of the Council of this

Society from 1921, and was a Vice-President

of the Society in 1926-27.

MR. CHARLES DALY, Solicitor, died upon

the 28th February, 1929, at his residence,

100 Pembroke Road, Dublin.

Mr. Daly served his apprenticeship with

the late Mr. John T. Hinds, Dublin ;

was

admitted in Michaelmas Term, 1875, and

practised in partnership with Mr. Thomas

M. Gerrard, at 25 Westmoreland Street,

Dublin.

He was Under-Sheriff for the County of

Kildare for thirty-seven years.

MR. THOMAS O'K. WHITE, Solicitor, died

upon

the 28th February,

1929, at his

residence, Mount Prospect, Rathangan, Co.

Kildare.

Mr. White was admitted in Michaelmas

Term, 1876, and practised in partnership

with Mr. William O'K. White, at Edenderry,

up to 1923, when he retired.

APPOINTMENT.

Mr. Michael J. Dwyer, Solicitor, 205

Pearse Street, Dublin, has been appointed

County Registrar for the County of Wexford.

THE LEGAL PRACTITIONERS

(QUALIFICATION) BILL.

Members of the Society are requested to

assist the Council in giving effect to the

resolution passed at the Special General

Meeting of the Society held on 8th February,

by which the Council was instructed to use

every possible effort to secure the rejection

of this Bill. The assistance asked for from

members is that they should immediately

communicate with those members of the

Senate with whom they may be acquainted,

and urge them to oppose the Bill in the

Senate.

Copies of the pamphlet giving reasons

" Why the Incorporated Law Society of

Ireland object to the Legal Practitioners

(Qualification) Bill, 1928," can be obtained

in the Secretary's Office, 45 Kildare Street,

Dublin.

The President and Secretary have been

present at the meetings of the Dail during

the debates on the final stage of the Bill in

that house. The Bill passed its final stage

in the Dail on the 22nd March by 88 votes

to 19, being a majority of 69 votes in

favour of the Bill. The majority on second

reading, in favour of the Bill, was 85.

Easter and Trinity Sittings Lectures will

Royal College of Surgeons, at two o'clock,

SOLICITORS' BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION

A meeting of the Directors was held on

6th March, 1929, Sir George Roche (in the

Chair) and

the following Directors were

present :—The President, Incorporated Law

Society; Messrs. J. E. MacDermott, E. D.

MacLaughlin, R. A. O'Brien, F. C. E. Bland

and W. G. Wakely.

Grants amounting to

£35

10s. Od. were

passed in favour of three applicants, the

widows of Solicitors.

Directions were given for the holding, on

5th June, of an election to an ordinary

annuitant of ^20 per annum.
