ASSISTANCE AND

analysis in your hand

The most impressive aspect, from an

operational perspective, is the fuel

consumption,” explains Pretorius, who

owns a fleet of both long-haul and site vehi-

cles. “We generally see figures in the region

of 1,8 km/l on our other 8 x 4 rigid, but ex-

amination of the figures we’re receiving from

our Scania Fleet Management System (FMS),

and my own, indicates that the Scania P410

is currently averaging around 2,3 km/l.

“This is on the combined cycle of loading

(idling), transporting to site, and unloading

(idling) and is a massive saving for our busi-

ness. Over a 12 month period I can safely say

we will save in the region of R18 000 in fuel

costs for this specific vehicle,” he continues.

Secondly, the weekly SMS report Pretorius

receives from Scania has proven to be an in-

valuable tool for his business. “Data includes

figures such as fuel consumption, distances

travelled, idling times and mean distances.

For me, one of the most important aspects is

the driver rating. This is calculated using this

data in conjunction with data linked to speed

control, braking habits and engine speed.

“My driver initially returned figures significantly

lower than what are recommended but I am

pleased to say that his mean average has

improved week on week to the point where he

is just short of the recommended percentage.

In addition the data from the FMS can be

viewed on any mobile device which allows for

easy reference.”

Pretorius says the third aspect he has been

impressed with is Scania’s after sales service.

“I recently experienced an incident near Piet

Retief where the vehicle was inoperable –

and the truck was back on the road within

three hours. The detailed SMS notification

kept me informed of the technician’s prog-

ress from when he arrived at the vehicle to

when it was running again”.

Theuns Naude, key account manager:

construction, public and special vehicles

at Scania South Africa explains that when

Scania conducted its needs analysis for LCP

Andri Pretorius from LCP Roofing and LCP Trucking is a happy

businessman. Since purchasing a Scania P410 CB 8 x 4 MHz Brick

Carrier Chassis a few months back he has enjoyed the benefits of his

purchase in several ways.
