UKAS accreditation for BSR Pipeline Services
Following significant investment,
pipeline service provider BSR Pipeline
Services Ltd has secured UKAS
accreditation for laboratory and testing
services, at its facilities in Hartlepool,
UK.
Commenting on the accreditation,
General manager John Harwood said,
“We recognise new and improved
materials are being introduced at an
accelerated pace. Laboratory testing
will provide an accurate insight into
the applied properties of coatings
in relation to corrosion, adhesion,
water absorption, heat, abrasion and
chemicals.”
Besides conducting tests to recognised
international standards and industrial
certifications (ISO17025:2005), the
experienced and flexible workforce
within the organisation is able to offer
the option of designing and building
bespoke test arrangements to provide
an independent certification for the
performance of safety critical coating
components.
Mr Harwood added, “Within our
Hartlepool laboratory we have invested
in state-of-the-art equipment to simulate
a variety of environmental conditions,
such as climatic and environmental
influences, mechanical and dynamic
environmental influences and the effects
on field joint coating cycles.”
In addition to the news of this
investment, BSR has just received its
tenth consecutive H&S award from
RoSPA.

Schroeder Valves celebrates
125
th
anniversary
Schroeder Valves is celebrating 125
years of business this year. The
history of the global specialist for pro-
tective pump fittings began in 1889,
when Heinrich Schroeder established
H Schroeder & Co GmbH & Co KG in
Gummersbach, a rural community east
of Cologne, Germany. Up to the end of
World War II the company manufactured
agricultural equipment.
In 1950 Schroeder started to design
and produce protective pump fittings.
In subsequent decades, the company
expanded and optimised its portfolio
with several new developments. Today
Schroeder Valves offers a wide range of
products, from throttles and automatic
recirculation valves to high-pressure
control valves. Each product is custom
designed.
Throughout its history Schroeder has
remained family owned and operated,
with Axel Muecher taking over the
leadership in 2005 after the retirement
of his father.
Under Mr Muecher’s leadership,
Schroeder has successfully pursued
international expansion and has grown
rapidly. In 2010, the company opened a
new factory, which doubled its operating
capacity. The new headquarters allow
Schroeder to effectively respond to
the growing global demand for its
products.

$10mn wastewater rehabilitation contract
Insituform Technologies, a subsidiary
of Aegion Corp, has been awarded a
contract valued at approximately $10mn
by the City of Baltimore, Maryland, USA.
Including this latest contract, the City
of Baltimore has awarded Insituform
$56.9mn in contracts since September
2012.
Insituform will install nearly seven miles
of small- and medium-diameter cured-
in-place pipe (CIPP) in wastewater
pipelines located throughout the
Baltimore area. Approximately one mile
of the installation will be for medium-
diameter trunk sewers.
Jeff Kowal, vice president and general
manager of Insituform’s east region,
said, “We are pleased the City of
Baltimore has entrusted us to execute
this technically challenging wastewater
rehabilitation project, which will require a
large bypass system and effective traffic
control in the city centre and Inner Harbor
areas. Our engineers and crews are well
prepared to successfully complete this
project while minimising the disruption
for citizens and businesses.”
Work on the project is expected to begin
in mid-2014 and will take approximately
16 months to complete.
