duction from Khanyisa was well down on
the 401 kt the operation contributed during
FY2015, reflecting the fact that the mine was
placed on care and maintenance during the
FY2016 reporting period.
“This is just a temporary halt,” explains
Sulaiman. “We’re currently negotiating with
various counterparties to incorporate addi-
tional resources into Khanyisa’s portfolio and
this has necessitated an integrated water use
licence for the area – which has now been
granted – and getting various DMR approvals.
We expect to complete this exercise within
months and to resume mining within the cal-
endar year. Assuming that we are successful
with all our negotiations, Khanyisa’s life will
be extended by more than four years.”
