WITH excellent results year on

year and a vibrant and engag-

ing atmosphere, students find

it impossible to resist partici-

pating in the opportunities

open to them at Queen Mary’s

College.

Each individual is supported to

achieve their full potential, not

just in terms of qualifications but

also transferable skills and

resilience.

Students leave with a bright

future ahead, whether progress-

ing to university, apprenticeships,

sponsored degrees, further train-

ing or meaningful employment.

With enthusiastic and committed

teachers and superb facilities, the

majority of students at QMC do

far better than they ever thought

possible when they started.

With nearly 2,000 entries at A-

level, the overall pass rate this

year was 99 per cent.

The college has a well-deserved

reputation for excellent results

and 2016 was no exception with

almost 50 per cent of all grades

awarded being high grades (A* –

B).

Many students supplement their

A-level programme with an

Extended Project Qualification

(EPQ), an independent research

project of their choice designed to

develop many of the skills

required for higher education or

employment. More than 66 per

cent of all students taking this

qualification gained either an A*

or A grade in 2016.

QMC excels in the STEM subjects

of maths and science, and as a

result many talented students

are able to pursue dreams of

prestigious careers in areas such

as medicine and veterinary

science. Some recent examples

include:

n

Khazna Chami, (A*A*A A) who

came to QMC from Park House

School is now at Oxford Univer-

sity studying Human Sciences.

n

Sam Wakelen (A A A) from

Testbourne Community School

is studying Dentistry at the pres-

tigious Queen Mary College,

London.

n

Jane Greenwood (A* A* A*)

from Brighton Hill Community

School is studying Medicine at

Birmingham University

n

Holly Drover (A* A* A) from

The Costello School has gone on

to study Physiotherapy at

Nottingham University.

Success is not limited to the

sciences. Will Hotten (Aldworth)

and Lydia Rayden (Cranbourne)

were both successful in gaining

places at London School of

Economics this year.

Other students who achieved the

highest grades and therefore

gained places at the most presti-

gious universities included

Callum Cleary who will be read-

ing geography at Christ Church,

Oxford, Jess Muller who won a

place at Surrey to study Nutri-

tion and Dietetics, and Hope

Millington who is going to read

Law at Manchester University.

Khazna Chamo speaks very

highly of the support and oppor-

tunities provided by QMC; senti-

ments echoed by all of our

students including Daniel Reid

(A* A* A) who is going to Bristol

to study Liberal Arts.

Daniel “can’t thank QMC teach-

ers enough” and is hoping that

the lecturers at university are as

excellent.

QMC has a wide range of courses

on offer, catering for all abilities,

and offers direct buses into

college from the Newbury,

Thatcham and Kingsclere areas.

Open evenings give prospective

students and their parents the

opportunity to discover what

makes QMC so special and we

will happily discuss students’

options to help them get where

they want to go.

Find out more at the QMC open

evenings coming up on October

6, 6pm-9pm and November 9,

6pm-9pm.

A free park and ride service will

be in operation and clearly sign

posted. Come and see Queen

Mary’s College for yourself –

teachers, students and staff look

forward to welcoming you.
