Reading Blue Coat School

THE nurture and develop-

ment of every pupil as a well-

rounded individual lies at the

heart of Reading Blue Coat

School.

This is most evident in the

pupils who leave the school, not

only with a handful of impres-

sive A-Level results, but also

having accomplished excellence

in the arts and in sport, having

learned invaluable life lessons

and having made lasting friend-

ships along the way.

There is a buzz and excitement

about academic life at Blue

Coat, where the friendly and

supportive environment enables

pupils to flourish and thrive.

Academic achievement is

valued highly and the school

has enjoyed strong results in

recent years.

Learn more about these results

and university destinations on

www.rbcs.org.uk

The curriculum is designed to

provide the best possible prepa-

ration for life after school.

Careers education runs

throughout the school, to help

students make the right choices

as they consider their options

for university and beyond.

In the sixth form particularly,

students are given weekly

careers guidance, guest speak-

ers feature at a special Higher

Education evening, and events

include a careers fair, a UCAS

convention and group univer-

sity visits.

Pupils are also encouraged to

participate in a wide range of

co-curricular activities, and the

school offers generous provi-

sion in a wide variety of sports,

music, drama, public speaking,

the CCF, the Duke of Edin-

burgh’s Award, Young Enter-

prise and a wide variety of addi-

tional activities.

The school is situated in a beau-

tiful 46-acre site by the Thames

in the village of Sonning.

The new Design Technology

centre will be completed later

this year and will complement

the school’s impressive facili-

ties, including the new IT

centre, the psychology and geol-

ogy block, the 23-classroom

Richard Aldworth Building, an

extensive sixth form centre, an

all-purpose sports hall, an

indoor swimming pool, a

purpose-built science centre

and a cricket pavilion.

Blue Coat is an independent day

school for boys aged 11-18 and

girls aged 16-18.

The Oratory School

THE Oratory School is set in

stunning countryside, close

education for boys from 11-18

years of age.

The school is proud of its

Catholic ethos and inspirational

teaching by highly-qualified

staff, stretching and challenging

each boy in and beyond the

classroom.

Pupils attain strong academic

results in public examinations

and move on to some of the best

universities in the UK and else-

where, well prepared for the

business world ahead.

Equally important are the lead-

ership skills taught through the

All boys are able to enjoy

outstanding provision for sport,

with a new multi-million pound

sports centre.

There is also a superb boat

house on the River Thames, a

nine-hole golf course and an

number of boys compete at

county and national levels

across all sports.

The arts continue to excel, with

the art and design department

repeatedly winning top national

awards.

The Schola perform at Windsor

Chapel, engage in overseas

tours and together with the jazz

band and strings’ groups,

perform at termly concerts.

Drama produces three big plays

yearly, giving every child a

chance to perform.

There is something for everyone

and many opportunities for those

willing to grasp them.

Personal show rounds are

arranged on a daily basis.

Taster days take place several

times a year.

If you would like to register your

son for one of these days or
