Compatible multicode reader with text recognition
ifm electronics’ multicode reader is used in a wide range of industrial applications. It provides
product tracking, production control or product identification.With its protection rating of IP
67, integrated lighting, different interfaces and a large variety of operating distances and field
view sizes, the ifm multicode reader is suited for a large number of industrial applications.
Independent of orientation and number of codes the multicode reader automatically
decodes 1D and 2D codes.The new version also solves OCR tasks, e.g. for product identifi-
cation by means of type designations or series numbers. The professional software of the
new multicode reader takes the high read-
ing reliability of the Data Matrix code to a
new dimension. The standardised process
interfaces RS-232, Ethernet,TCP/IP and Eth-
ernet/IP ensures fast and easy integration in
industrial control technology.
In addition to an automatic exposure set-
ting, manual adjustment is possible as well.
Four lighting segments can be deactivated
manually. Therefore optimum results are
achieved even with highly reflective metal
surfaces.

Pedestrian Detection Systems… high end technology
Booyco Electronics has been at the forefront of the Pedestrian Detection Systems (PDS)
technology development since the company was established in 2006. From the first basic
collision warning system to the Booyco Electronics PDS solution of today, the product has
gone through three technology improvements. “It is this embracing of newly available tech-
nology that has allowed Booyco Electronics to remain best-in-class,” says Anton Lourens,
managing director.
Industry demands have also changed over this period and it is through the application
of the available appropriate technologies that the Booyco Electronics PDS system complies
with current South African legislation.
The legislation mandating the use of PDS systems came into being in SouthAfrica in 2015,
and Lourens says there are varying lev-
els of involvement in the SouthAfrican
mining market when it comes to the
deployment of high-end technology for
PDS. He explains that where the devel-
opment of PDS does not form part of
a TMM organisation’s global strategy,
that company is less likely to develop
systems that will comply specifically
and only with SouthAfrican legislation.
Booyco Electronics’ fully integrated
PDS represents the latest generation
of this technology and offers a sup-
ply of information, which allows the
safety intervention capability with a
data hub that enables integration with
TMM OEM’s underground vehicles
and equipment. Each PDS is deployed
based on application specific risk
assessments ensuring that it is fit-for-
purpose.
