The 2017 program has recognized Corning
Optical Fiber and Cable’s MiniXtend cables,
combining Corning’s micro cabling solution
with its time-saving binderless FastAccess
technology. Designed for installation
in microduct systems using air-assisted
installation methods, the cables are up to
50 percent smaller than standard loose tube
cables, and offer high fiber counts in a small
footprint. FastAccess technology eliminates
the use of a binder, waterblocking yarns and
tapes, and is said to enable up to 70 percent
faster cable access and reduced risk of buffer
tube damage.
“On behalf of the Lightwave Innovation
Reviews, I would like to congratulate Corning
on their score,” said Rob Stuehrk, Lightwave
Group publisher. “The judges noted the
MiniXtend cable’s small diameter was
particularly noteworthy and beneficial to
users. One of the judges commented that
duct space is rapidly vanishing, in no small
part because installing new duct is becoming
cost - and regulation - prohibitive. The ability
to fit 144 fibers into 8.1mm bodes well for
the MiniXtend cable and, of course, for the
organizations that use it.”
