The Steelmaster hardware and software

measuring units to the central PC. It is
possible to process and display all systems

DPAInspect portable
3D industrial measuring
system
Aicon 3D Systems, Germany, is the
manufacturer of the DPAInspect portable
3D industrial measuring system, which is
part of its range of optical camera based 3D
measurement solutions. The DPAInspect
can be operated as a stand-alone solution
to measure parts, or may be combined with
established and leading surface measuring
systems and measurement software
packages.
DPAInspect uses a digital camera
as its acquisition device, and
so is able to measure parts in
any location. Launched in 2006,
DPAInspect has already been
successful with many worldwide
leading manufacturers of
surface measuring systems and
measurement software packages.
A range of software integrates
DPAInspect as a plug-in, such as
PolyWorks/InspectorTM, Geomagic®
or Rapidform®. The 3D measuring
data collected with the DPAInspect camera
is directly transferred to the available
measurement software for analysing, eg for
comparison with CAD data. In doing so, the
user stays in the usual software environment
and starts the Aicon DPAInspect plug-in
simply with a click.
The application of theAicon photogrammetry
with white light scanners is of most benefit
when highest accuracies are required or
when the surface of large objects must
be measured. In general, with respect to
white light scanners, there is a problem of
merging the individual scans flawlessly at
their overlaps.
DPAInspect removes this particular
problem, precisely determining the position
of the whole object in a spatial coordinate
system, and delivering accurate 3D
reference points (accuracy: +0.015mm/m
diagonal of object).
Using these reference points, the scans
can be fitted precisely. The quality of the
scanning results is increased due to the
higher overall accuracy.
