Wire & Cable ASIA – September/October 2007
14
It’s normally a case of rain stopped play at the Wimbledon tennis championships,
but this year it was Nexans which kept the tournament running smoothly – despite
the best efforts of Britain’s wet summer weather.
For the company provided more than 5km of Alsecure NXS pre-wired conduit
cable at the All England Club, which is in the middle of a three-year expansion
programme.
The halogen-free and flame retardant, with minimal smoke emission, Alsecure NXS
cable is designed to protect people and property from emissions of toxic gases
and deadly fumes in the event of a fire.
Installed over a two-month period, the cable was used to power the legendary
tournament’s huge array of facilities, including lighting, kitchens, hospitality areas,
commentary boxes and scoreboards.
The All England Lawn Tennis Club is halfway through a three-year, £125m project
to build a new translucent, retractable roof over Centre Court, increase capacity
from 13,800 to 15,000 seats and improve catering facilities.
