New generation of leak detection pigs
Gottsberg Leak Detection, a family
owned company specialising in non-
destructive testing, has launched a new
ultrasonic leak detection pig that makes
pigging in pipelines easier.
The new GLD 202 detector is a reliable
and easy-to-use pipeline pig that can
detect leaks from a (TÜV Nord GmbH
certified) size of 6.8 l/h. The company
states that this is less than 5 per cent
of what online systems can normally
detect, and better than most other leak
detection pigs.
The Gottsberg detector is approved
for ATEX Zone 0, which means that the
handling with the machine and its use
in pipelines does not affect operation,
because no EX norms must be regarded
concerning the use of the pig. During a
run, normal pipeline operation can be
maintained, because parameters such
as speed or pressure can vary without
influencing the electronic recording.
When the run, which can last up to
2,000km at a flow rate of 2m/sec, is
complete, the analysis of the recorded
data with GLD 700 software can be
carried out by the operator’s personnel,
because its use is easy and mostly
automated.
A few days of training with Gottsberg’s
experts will be enough to make reliable
statements about the leak tightness of
the inspected pipeline.
