1.0 POLICY

he City of Greensboro creates departmental/divisional safety committees as a tool to help
ensure a safe working environment and expects active participation of both employees and
supervisors. Certain Safety Committees are mandatory; others are encouraged.
2.0 PURPOSE
D
epartmental/Divisional Safety Committees are created to assist departments/supervisors
to prevent work-related accidents and injuries; remain compliant with Occupational Safety
and Health Standards; train the members and co-employees; and reduce the costs of work-related
accidents, lost work-days, and equipment damage.
3.0 SCOPE
Safety Committees are required for the departments/divisions listed in Section 5.1. Safety Committees are
encouraged for other work groups.
4.0 DEFINITIONS
None
5.0 ORGANIZATIONAL RULES
5.1 Required Safety Committees - In order to promote safety and enhance direct communications
with employees, departmental/divisional safety committees will be required in the following
departments/divisions:
A. Support Services
B. Coliseum
C. Parks and Recreation
D. Fire
E. Police
F. Engineering and Inspections
G. Building Inspections
H. Fleet Maintenance
