The following document is a resolution passed by the Greensboro City Council in February

1975 reaffirming the City’s policy on equal employment opportunity.

RESOLUTION REAFFIRMING POLICY ON EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY FOR THE

CITY OF GREENSBORO

W

HEREAS, from time to time the City of Greensboro must submit certifications to the

United States Department of Housing and Urban Development assuring that:

The City’s Community Development Program will be conducted and administered in

conformity with the Title 6 of the Civil Rights Act of 1964; Title 8 of the Civil Rights Act of

1968; Section 109 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974; Section 3 of

the Housing and Urban Development Act of 1968; Executive Order 11246; Executive Order

11063, and any HUD regulations issued to implement these authorities;

HEREAS, Section 109 of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 requires

that no person in the United States shall on the grounds of race, color, national origin, or

sex be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination

under any program or activity funded in whole or in part with the Community Development funds

made available pursuant to this section;

HEREAS, consistent with the City’s established personnel rules, regulations and policies,

no person shall be refused employment, given preference or otherwise discharged from the

City on account of race, sex, religion, age, political affiliation, or national origin.

HEREAS, it is further pronounced that among the practices fully discharged are: (1)

Discrimination in regards to tenure, term, promotion, salaries, and other conditions of

employment; and, (2) Discrimination in the selection of personnel for training and temporary/

permanent employment;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF

GREENSBORO:

1. That it is declared and affirmed to be an official policy of’ the City of’ Greensboro to foster,

maintain, and promote equal employment opportunity.
